Dear Chipotlies

I started to record a video but I decided my words come out much better and more censored  when I write. So hear it goes.

Dear Chipotlies,

Your latest marketing scheme has left me full of disappointment and rage. I call it a scheme because that is exactly what it is. A marketing ploy full of fictitious information and lies to scare the public into purchasing what you deem as “safe” food products.

As a fourth generation farmer my family has dedicated our entire lives to ensuring the well-being and care of animals and tending to the land to deliver a safe product to our consumers. We do not get to take vacations, sleep in, or days off. Our animals need cared for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days a year. It doesn’t matter if we are in the middle of a blizzard, a flood or if it is the hottest day of the year. Our priorities lie with the well-being of our animals and ensuring the have fresh water and food, a dry, warm and safe place to reside and free of illnesses. We are so confident in our products being safe that we too consume them and feed them to our family and friends.

Instead of bashing the hand that literally supplies your business with products to make a profit maybe you should take a step back and consult with a farmer before your next advertising campaign. If you keep up your current path of destruction you are going to find yourself out of business because you won’t be able to find a farmer in the United States that wants to supply you with food products.

Your “scarecrow” advertisement shows just how little you know about agriculture and how food comes from the farm to the plate of the consumer. IF food isn’t coming from the farmer where do you want it to come from? Thousands of people go hungry every day due to a shortage of food and instead of finding a way to help with this issue you are trying to make more people go hungry everyday by threatening their food source. This is due to the decrease in the number of farms and the rapidly increasing population. How can farmers produce enough food to feed the world using the same methods that were created 60 years ago? That’s like telling everyone we should go back to writing letters as our major form of communication and get rid of your iphones, wireless internet and email. Are you really that moronic? Along with that obesity is the leading disease in the United States and instead of encouraging people to eat local, fresh produce from the farmers that is actually healthy for them, you are encouraging them to come to Chipotle and eat your over-priced, out of control portion sized, calorie ridden food.

There is no factual information that organic and all-natural is better for human consumption and health. In fact their are LESS standards administered to control safety of food products in products labeled organic or all-natural than those that are not. The USDA and FDA have set high standards to ensure the safest quality product is delivered to the consumers. It is just a method to charge more money for the same product. My great-grandfather consumed lard, ate red meat everyday of his life and lived to almost be 100 years old with little health issues.

Your website is full of hypocritical statements with little to know factual information in them. And then you tell people that you can’t always assure this safe product in your disclaimer line because in some areas it is to hard to find, but you will let your consumers know! This is the biggest line of crap I have ever read. The reason you can’t ensure this product is because you have to pay extra money to find it and you want to advertise having it but actually sell the cheapest product you can find.

I hope you realize you have lost alot of consumers because you have directly threatened the livelihoods of thousands of people. The old saying “think before you speak” could be beneficial for your organization at a time like this. Enjoy your all-natural chicken and let me know when you find a better answer for supplying the world with food than from the farmers.

Day 7- The Delivery

Living out in the country we were not able to get some of the finer things or services in life. Like wireless internet (until about 7 years ago). However, now that we can finally indulge in these amazing things. One of these special services is none other than delivery service. In particularly, food delivery. (In case you don’t know me very well, I LOVE food and I am always worried about what my next meal will be).

Where the boy and I grew up we either lived to far from any delivery service or our towns were so small they didn’t offer delivery service. In my house when we wanted a pizza my parents handmade one for us. Basically when we wanted any sort of food mom or dad started cooking. Yes, that’s right folks Big Ron can cook. Actually both of my parents are great cooks.

Anywho, after the boy and I had been moved in for awhile I decided it was time we took advantage of this luxury. We started by ordering a pizza and having it delivered. It was delicious and successful. We then learned that a few other restaurants in town delivered as well. Although, I try to cook most nights for the boy, the idea of having ready made food delivered to your door step is tempting on those nights that I really just don’t feel like cooking.

No wonder America is obese when you can get cheese fries, pizza, onion rings, mozzarella sticks and a wide variety of unhealthy and delicious food delivered to your doorstep. I guess I will have to learn self-control so that the delivery service doesn’t get the best of me.

Healthier ME

Towards the end of the semester our livestock judging team decided to begin a biggest loser club and try to get healthy and fit over the summer. We all put $20 dollars in a pool and weighed in at the last practice to weigh back in when we return in August. Judging is hard on our bodies as we are constantly on the road, sitting in a van, and consuming junk foods and beverages. I got the “men” of our team to agree to do the competition per percent of body weight and told them I was going to beat them all. So far, I have only shed a pound or so, as my desk job is not providing me with that physical labor that I am so used to getting during the summer. As a result, I have invested into some workout videos and I am going to try to be more conscious of what I am consuming…I CANNOT let the boys win. Today’s blog is going to be about the 12 Best Power Foods for Women!

  1. Parmesan Cheese- Parmesan cheese is rich in calcium which helps strenghten bones. During your 20s (NOW FOR ME) calcium is crucial to prevent osteoporosis. Other sources can be yogurt and non-fat milk, but after eating those things three times a day, parmesan cheese can be a great alternative. There are 340 mg ofcalcium per ounce.
  2. Apples- Rich in quercetin apples help boost your immunity. Quercetin is an anti-oxidant that boosts your bodies disease fighting ability.
  3. Lentils- Over 12% of young women today have low iron stores (myself included), Low-calorie lentils pack about 30% of your  daily iron per cooked cup.  Wish I knew what I lentil is…I don’t feel as if I would enjoy them very much….look flavorless
  4. Broccoli– ONE CUP OF BROCCOLI HAS 100% of your NEEDED VITMIN C!!  (YUCK, too bad I hate broccoli, but good news for those who do enjoy it). Broccoli also helps prevent wrinkles as it gives the skin elasticity and helps in vitamin A production which replaced old skin cells with new.  Why couldn’t this be any other green vegetable in the world?
  5. Potatoes- OH YEAH!!!! potatoes pack healthy carbs called resistant starch that helps keep weight in check. A medium sized potatoe with the skin on provides MORE potassium than a banana and helps maintain low blood pressure.  Glad I can still eat potatoes!!!
  6. Spinach- This vegetable does it all! This “Super Veggie” is jam packed with Vitamin K and also contains calcium and magnesium. This things slow down the breaking of bones and help prevent birth defects. So like Popeye always taught..we must eat our spinach to big and strong!
  7. Dark Chocolate– yes,  you just read CHOCOLATE as one of the 12 best power foods. According to research, eating an ounce and a half of dark chocolate every day for two weeks will relieve stress by producing less cortisol which will help lower rises in blood pressure. (Mom, since Dad likes dark chocolate so much, sounds like you should be feeding him this for dessert after the week he has had!!)
  8. Mushrooms- eating 1/3 oz. of mushrooms a day can lead to a 64% reduction in breast cancer. YEAH FOR MUSHROOMS!!!
  9. Sardines- Great sources of omega-3 acids which decrease inflammation that leads to blocked arteries. They also can prevent blood clots and keep arteries in good shape. Sorry, but I will not be partaking in this power food.
  10. Avocados- High in monosaturated fat, avacados and the mono fat. help drop belly fat!!! Load up on the guacamole ladies!
  11. Bell Peppers– Packed with over twice the amount of daily vitamin C along with other vitamins, bell peppers can help your vision stay strong and prevent things like cataracts and AMD. Sounds like I better load up on my bell peppers so I don’t drive into any cables in high school parking lots….(inside joke)
  12. Whole Grain Pasta- LAST BUT NOT LEAST- loaded with vitamin B which converts food into energy AND allows you to feel satisfied with fewer calories.
